This event is part of the UK/Australia Season.
The UK/Australia Season is a major new cultural exchange celebrating the diverse and innovative artist communities and cultural sectors of each nation. A collaboration between the British Council and the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, The Season is a vibrant programme spanning theatre, film, visual arts, dance, design, architecture, music, literature, higher education and a public engagement programme.
Designed to strengthen and build cultural connections, the Season theme is “Who Are We Now?” and will reflect on our history, explore our current relationship, and imagine our future together. The Season launched in both countries in September 2021.
Overview
Presented by the Sports Diplomacy Alliance, this one-day Dialogue, Who are we now, as seen through the lens of sport, investigates the role that sport plays in the relationship between the UK and Australia. Leading academics, diplomats and sector experts from both countries will review our shared sporting past, celebrate the diversity of our present ‘Sportscape’ and re-consider how we can harness sport for better social, diplomatic, and economic relations, as well as share best knowledge and practice on Sports Diplomacy. The Dialogue is supported by British Council and DFAT and will be held concurrently in Queensland, host of the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2032 Olympics, and London, home of the 2012 Olympic Game.
