David de Garis, Director of Markets & Senior Economist, National Australia Bank

Dave is a Director and Senior Economist with the NAB.

His bread and butter work is as a business, treasury or financial markets economist, speaking with clients ranging from the Bank’s agribusiness and corporate clients as well as to institutional clients at home and abroad.

He’s writes for the Bank’s daily and weekly economics and market reports, and speaks with the media, often on a day to day basis speaking about the economy and financial markets.

Dave undertook his economics apprenticeship with federal governments of various persuasions in Canberra, before he left Canberra in the late 1980s. He finished his indenture in Canberra as a senior economic adviser in the then Prime Minister Bob Hawke’s Department in Canberra, and before that in the Federal Treasury and the Bureau of Statistics.

Jennifer Mackinlay, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner, Austrade

Jennifer is the Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for United Kingdom, Ireland and Nordics for the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (“Austrade”). Having lived in France for almost 20 years, Jennifer was previously Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Luxembourg between June 2015 and November 2019. She has a deep knowledge of European markets and doing business in Europe.

Prior to joining Austrade, Jennifer worked as a lawyer for international law firm Clifford Chance in Paris for 15 years. She specialised in Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity and advised both international and French clients. She was also the head of the Paris firm’s client development, marketing and communications team with responsibility for France, Turkey and Africa for five years before joining Austrade in June 2015.

 

John Foundling, Partner, Menzies LLP

John is a highly experienced deal-maker and lead adviser for Menzies – an accountancy, finance and business advisory firm. John’s role focuses on corporate acquisitions, disposals and development capital, obtaining funding from a wide range of sources, including private equity.

John provides corporate finance advice focused on enabling SMEs to complete deals in the range £2m-£50 million. He specialises in working with management teams on management buy-outs/buy-ins as well as raising senior debt and acquisition finance, including equity (venture capital/private equity). John is able to find the right investor from a very broad contact network and through his excellent relationships across private equity.
